The painting illuminates the first letter of the first word of the Matins response to the first lesson for the first Sunday of Advent. On the same page is a full floral border in colors with gold and silver acanthus scrolls on red ground, incorporating miniature in lower left corner depicting Cistercian(?) abbot kneeling at prie-dieu in domed loggia, with patron saint at his side and landscape beyond.<
